R&D Specialties

E-Motor

The electric motor is the heart of the electric drive system. It must meet high performance and cost targets. However, to achieve best-in-class efficiency and noise behavior in a minimal-footprint space, it must function in perfect harmony with neighboring components, including the mechanical reduction gearbox.

  • We work in minimal development iterations to perfect system-wide interactions.
  • We find answers to complex multi-physical questions using state-of-the-art methods such as numerical simulation and multi-objective optimization.
  • Simulations are only as good as their models and parameters. We continuously calibrate models using real-world materials, parts, and components tests.

Electronics

The inverter delivers current and voltage from the HV battery to the electric motor at the right level and frequency. The more efficient the inverter, the greater the vehicle’s range.

7-step process

Step 1 – We meticulously design the inverter's electronics and housing, ensuring every aspect meets your requirements.

Step 2 – We create the circuit diagram and layout for the PCBAs and 3D and 2D drawings of electrical and electromechanical components.

Step 3 – Our manufacturing partners prepare sample parts, which we test - from the smallest unit to the entire product.

Step 4 – The test stage involves functional and environmental tests, such as thermal cycling and vibrations.

Step 5 – We measure samples in our EMC measuring cell and optimize emission and immunity behavior.

Step 6 – We ensure compliance with standards like functional safety, FMEA, and FEMDA.

Step 7 – We transition the prototype into series.

Software

Our highly qualified development team specializes in embedded software for drive technology, in compliance with strict industrial standards such as ISO 26262 for functional safety and ISO 21434, which protects systems from cyber-attacks.

The ASPICE process model helps us efficiently structure and continuously optimize our software's development, management, and maintenance.

DevOps automation accelerates our software development, testing, and deployment, enabling us to ensure continuous integration and delivery.

Combining ASPICE, agile methods, and DevOps, we develop software solutions that meet the highest security and functionality requirements.

System

We design the system architecture in line with your vision and goals. Our engineering teams define the requirements for SW, HW, and EM components and integrate the components into one holistic system. We rigorously test the system on our in-house test benches and at 3rd-party laboratories, ensuring top-notch performance and reliability.

  • Requirements engineering
  • One-stop system engineering services
  • Fast and efficient process with development, integration, and testing in one place
  • System architectures up to ASIL-D and reusable for other applications
  • Customized simulation models for the evaluation of functional safety and compliance with ISO 26262
  • Proprietary back-to-back test benches for cost-effective endurance tests
  • Development of test bench automation that lets us run fully automated test cases

Testing

We have testing benches with climate chambers on site to ensure ready access and the maximum efficiency of our comprehensive functional tests.

  • Back-to-back test bench primarily used for endurance testing
  • High-power test bench for up to 300 kW used for high-precision measuring in the testing and approving of systems
  • The climatic chamber for tests at ultra-low to ultra-high temperatures and humidity levels can be combined with other test benches for more sophisticated test set-ups.
  • EMC lab on-site for pre-compliance EMC measurements
